your essence

The essence of who you are, are you in touch with that? What you need in your life to feel completely as though you are living your best life, do you know what that is? I am so grateful to be working with a really amazing life coach right now who had me do an exercise to really figure out the essence of who Ashley is and how to continue to stay completely authentic to myself by using this essence as my guide through life. She had me call up close friends and family and ask them, “What shows up when I do and what do I bring to a room?” This wasn’t an easy thing for me to do with my friends because they have been with me through some of the most difficult times and I truly did not want to have to ask anything of them but their answers were beautiful and completely filled me up. Along with my family and everything that I got back, I feel so eternally grateful for my tribe. From those answers she had me send exactly what each person said and she pulled out the most important recurring themes, as well…

10 things

Teddy and I spent Sunday riding our bikes over to our favorite little flower shop in St. Louis and other than being incredibly warm, we had a great day. I thought I would do a little random thought stream to update you all on little things going on with us! We have a new niece named Charlotte Kay and we are so excited. Her older brother is going to love having a sibling and my sister was amazing. She had a tough pregnancy but it was so worth it so that we can all snuggle this little bug! We want to start a little home garden but do not know really anything about getting that started so give us all the tips if you know. We have a new nephew named Nolan Brian and are so excited to meet him this weekend! #allthebabies My soul is stirring so much right now to create something that is entirely my own as my career. What would you all like to see more of here on the blog? I have been incredibly inspired by Taryn Toomey and her way of practicing, look her up. You won’t regret it. Teddy and I watched Moana…

The Universe Has Your Back Discussion

Hello, my loves. I am so excited to be kicking off this monthly book club with my favorite book of the year so far, The Universe Has Your Back.  I love this book possibly because of the shift that it brought into my personal life and also for the way that she has a seriously lighthearted yet very tangible approach for a first timer to meditation and the benefits with connecting with a higher energy. How is this going to work? The questions will be posted below along with my personal reflections on the subjects and in the comments at the bottom of the post I hope to have a place of connection + community that we can chat about the ways that this book impacted you or fell short. This book & discussion is not attached to any form of religion yet I want everyone to be able to reflect on their own form of God, energy, The Universe, whatever it is openly and without judgement. That being said, let’s keep it positive y’all. Let us practice non-judgement and be open to community! Grab your wine & let’s get this show on the road.  1. In Chapter One, Gabby…

my yoga

What is yoga to me? Yoga is stillness. It is coming to my mat exactly as I am that day, in that moment, knowing that after I will be a bit clearer than I was before I came to my practice. It is about leaning into the discomfort, into the unknown, into the balance. Yoga is consciousness, to me. It is a place that I connect with myself on a deeper level and become a better version of myself. Oh, and I am not even talking about the physical postures. I am talking about the practice of taking what I learn on my mat, off my mat; to life. Let’s get really real here.  I really lost myself for a solid year of my life. I couldn’t tell you what I wanted, who I was, or what was going on inside my brain because of the debilitating anxiety I was experiencing. I felt like I was living my days in a constant loop inside my mind, that I couldn’t seem to slow down. I couldn’t find a way to articulate to anyone what was going on because I didn’t know what was causing it. I felt so incredibly stuck…

Colorado Day Three

On the last full day we spent in Colorado, we woke up to rain. We had planned to use the rain as an excuse to stay inside and just relax from the whole week spent outside but we just couldn’t resist going for another hike. We looked up the weather for Colorado Springs and decided that a drive was worth it to see a new city. We set out to go on a long hike with some waterfalls along the way- or so we thought. We ended up not making it to that trail head. After driving on the scariest switchback dirt road on the side of the mountain for an hour, we decided our little car would just not make it all the way. I have never been so afraid driving before, and I am usually pretty brave over these things! So instead we found a nice place that had a lookout area and hiked just 2 miles to this spot that we took some pictures at. It was a beautiful compromise so we didn’t mind. We had such a great trip; as you have seen in all my posts. We decided that as soon as Teddy…
