Colorado Day Two

We woke up really wanting to tackle this trail that we thought would be even better than the Gulch trail we did the first day- turns out, not so much. We were so thankful to have seen this view and had a place to stop to meditate, sit peacefully and just breathe. However, at some point we took a wrong turn, for 2 hours. We got to a really rocky spot that no longer even had a trail to it and realized that we just had to walk down to the bottom of the mountain and get to the road and find the car. We were slightly bummed that the trail beat us, but we still had a beautiful day outside to enjoy and Z loved all the sticks she could munch on! Then we got back to the airbnb (will be doing a separate post with pictures of our beautiful place!) and Teddy made me a homemade margarita! We sat outside and read, tanned and enjoyed the view before dinner. We decided to stick with the theme and go get some tacos and margaritas at a small place in town. We got dressed and took some pictures before we…

Colorado Day One

What a week we had in Fort Collins, Colorado last week to celebrate our anniversary. We drove most of the day on Monday from St. Louis to our AirBnB in Fort Collins so by the time we arrived we were pretty tired and ready for food and relaxation.  On Tuesday we woke up early and headed in the direction of the mountains. It only took about 20 minutes to be immersed into them, with rockies on either side of us we drove in a bewildered state of awe, climbing elevation and taking in the views. We finally decided on a trail to hike, with no expectations of what was ahead we took off with a hope to see some pretty views and find some stillness. We were elated by what we stumbled upon. We followed a narrow dirt trail that took us through and around green mountain sides, rockie mountain sides and everything in between. We had to keep crossing over a rapid stream and problem solve on what the best way was to get Z over to the other side. She loved it! She jumped right in and would be so proud of herself when she got onto the…

year one

Year one has passed, seemingly as fast as it came. But at the same time I feel like waking up in Texas to marry my best friend was so long ago already. One of the greatest days of our lives and the beginning of a new chapter that has been unfolding ever since. This year was a lot of things. Beautiful, challenging and everything in between but you, you are my forever constant. You are my rock and have become even more my very best friend. Here’s to us, over a decade of love and a strong year one of marriage. Over the past week we stayed at a beautiful airbnb to celebrate what this year has meant to us and to escape the city to find peace and serenity in the mountains. Over the week we hiked so of the most scenic views we have ever experienced and found a new shared love of the stillness that you can find at the summit. I have so many amazing pictures to share but for today, on the day that we got married last year, I want to share some reflecting that we did this week. On the last night of our…

navigating the big stuff

I am currently sitting in my favorite local coffee shop, spending some time in this space in between the staff meeting we just finished and my next shift that starts in an hour and a half. I love having those little gaps of time to sneak away and sit in a crowded coffee shop to work on this blog. There is something really magical in the hustle and bustle of the movement of strangers. Each person is either focused on their own work or conversing with a friend. Some of my deepest conversations and most productive work has occurred around the buzz of strangers. Maybe it’s the strong coffee pumping through our collective veins or maybe it is just the environment as a whole that makes such a safe place for conversation and inspiration, I can’t be sure. As I sit here, half unintentionally listening into conversations and half focusing on the sounds of the baristas brewing the coffee, I am still able to get silent and focused. The aroma of coffee fills the air, the buzz of new business ventures, catching up with an old friend and stretching your limbs to continue to keep on working is all going…

A Letter to My Love

Love. Always a constant in my life. No matter the changes, seasons, hobbies or passions that come my way personally; love is my anchor. My love has a name. Theodore. My love is patient. My love is oh, so kind. My love is handsome. Logical. Rational. Vulnerable. Brilliant. Soft. Humble. He is who keeps me grounded while lifting me up. He is my very best friend. Theodore has been my best friend since 9th grade. My confidant. My person. My other half. I feel so lucky to have a love like this. I don’t remember life without him, nor do I ever want to be reminded. The secret to our connection is that we care about ‘us’ above all else. We tell each other everything. He is the person I can’t wait to tell about my most exciting and boring moments to. My person that I would do anything for. I feel so grateful to have a love like ours for over a decade. Unwavering. Always strong. It still blows my mind that we have been so deeply connected from such a young age. If you are in love at an age that people think is too young but you…
